A woman has been airlifted to hospital after a mid-day shooting in Oshawa and a person is in custody, according to police.

The incident was reported by Durham police around noon Wednesday, April 13. Officers responded to the area of ​​Dean Avenue and Normandy Street for reports of shots fired near a residence, police said.

Police found a woman in the area with a gunshot wound and she has been taken to hospital in Toronto via the Orange air ambulance, police said. Information on the woman’s age and the extent of her injuries was not immediately available.

A man has been taken into custody, police said. Police said at about 12:30 pm there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
