A man faces murder and assault charges months after five people were struck by gunfire at a north Oshawa bar in the summer.

Gunfire erupted at the BLVD bar at 1812 Simcoe St. shortly before 1 am on June 24. The club is a stone’s throw from the Durham College Oshawa campus and a frequent watering hole for students.

The shots fired struck five people in the bar including Jaheim Spence, 21 of Toronto, and Joshua Connell-Wong, 22 of Oshawa. Both named victims succumbed to their wounds at the hospital and were identified days later. The other three suffered non-life-threatening wounds.

Durham Regional Police immediately launched an investigation and appealed for any and all witnesses to come forward. However, little information was heard regarding the case in the months since.

Homicide detectives were finally able to identify a suspect following an “extensive investigation.” On December 20, nearly six months after the shooting, they announced they had charged a suspect.

Louka Greaves, 20 of Scarborough, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault.

This is the second shooting at the bar in as many years. On November 8, 2021, a man, 19, was shot in the leg after a fight between two groups of people. A suspect in this shooting was arrested days later.

Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation can call Det. Dorego of the Major Crime Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5319.
