A man who, according to police, kidnapped a toddler and stole a vehicle from an unconscious woman, was charged with kidnapping.
A woman was found unresponsive on the ground and receiving medical attention around 5:20 p.m. in the Lakewoods Park area on Birchcliffe Avenue on August 20, Durham police say. When she regained consciousness, she informed the police that her two-year-old daughter, her vehicle, and other belongings were missing.
An investigation later found the woman was dating a man who police alleged had kidnapped her daughter and her vehicle after she passed out, police say.
The child and a suspect were later located in the Athol and Mary Streets area. The child was unharmed and a man was arrested, the police said.
A 31-year-old man with no permanent address was charged with kidnapping, kidnapping someone under the age of 14, and stealing a motor vehicle. He is also charged with possession of property over $ 5,000, theft under $ 5,000, duplicate credit card ownership, failure to comply with a probation order, and driving a motor vehicle without a license.
He was being held for a bail hearing.
