The cause of a fire that destroyed a residential home in South Oshawa is still unknown.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate the fire that occurred on Saturday morning July 3 at 1420 Ritson Rd.

Stephen Barkwell, Oshawa deputy chief fire officer, said, “You completed your report on Saturday.”

However, he has not yet received the document.

The affected apartments are not habitable and the owner of the building is working with the tenants to help with property recovery, added Barkwell.

A Facebook page has also been set up for those evicted from their homes due to the Oshawa fire on Saturday.

The building was badly damaged by the fire and one person was taken to hospital seriously injured.

The Facebook page provides updates on residents, as well as offers of clothing and furnishings for those who have been evicted from their homes.

Displaced residents of the building were taken to the South Oshawa Community Center for temporary accommodation. The Durham Region Social Services were also on site.

Brian Nicholson, the councilor representing the area, commented on the page, “I want to thank everyone who has joined in and offered help. This page is a contact page. They list what you have to offer and others list what they need you find a match, you can then connect to meet and donate

“We are approaching 200 members in a few hours. This shows the spirit of our community and how we all work together to help one another, ”he added.
