Ocean-going ship loaded with metal collides with Oshawa harbor pier

An investigation into possible damage to the pier in the port of Oshawa is underway after a large ship crashed into the structure over the weekend.

According to the Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority, there were no injuries from the accident that occurred at around 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 25th.

The MV Ocean Castle, a deep-sea ship, had arrived in the port of Oshawa with a load of steel when the incident occurred, said Larissa Fenn, director of public relations at HOPA. The stern of the ship hit the pier as it docked at the port’s west quay, she said.

“Nobody was injured and we are currently investigating the extent of the damage,” said Fenn. “We hope to be able to inform the public of a schedule for the reopening of the public pier in the coming days.”
