TORONTO – A York Regional Police officer faces fraud charges after police said he allegedly worked as a broker while he was supposed to be on duty.
Investigators say they opened an investigation earlier this year into a police officer who works in the information management unit and “worked as a broker during his scheduled YRP hours”.
He was arrested and charged with under $ 5,000 fraud.
On Tuesday, police identified him as 30-year-old Jamil Saade from Markham.
He’s next due to appear in court on August 3rd in Newmarket.
Investigators say Saade has been a cop for eight years.
The 2020 Ontario Sunshine List revealed Const. Jamil Antonio Saade made $ 112,000 that year plus $ 558 in taxable benefits.
York Regional Police spokesman Const. Laura Nicolle confirmed that the defendant’s middle name is Antonio.
She said Saade is currently suspended with pay under the terms of the Ontario Police Services Act.
Century 21 Leading Edge Realty in Markham runs a real estate agent named Antonio Saade.
A representative from Leading Edge Realty confirmed that Antonio Saade worked at the brokerage firm but was unable to comment on his current employment status.
