SIU releases officer after Oshawa man dies

The Special Investigation Unit released a Durham area police officer who was present when a man fell to his death in Oshawa.

The incident occurred at 275 Wentworth Street on Sunday, November 22, at around 9:00 pm. When a police officer arrived at the scene, a man was dangling from the balcony of an apartment. The officer told the man to retire to the balcony, but he did not and fell to his death shortly afterwards.

The SIU assumed there was a subject officer and two witness officers.

In a press release, the SIU stated, “The Director of the Special Investigation Unit, Joseph Martino, has determined that there is no reasonable cause to believe that the officer in question committed any crime related to the death of the man.”

The SIU did not name the officer.
