Sufferer recognized in lethal wooden chipper incident in Oshawa

A 23-year-old forestry worker was killed after a workplace incident this morning. The victim has been identified as Dan Vanheyst of Verona, Ontario.

Emergency crews were called to Waverly Street North, near Adelaide Avenue in Oshawa, around 8:45 am to treat a man who had been injured by a piece of machinery, a wood chipper.

An Eco Tree Service truck had tarp draping the machinery. The company is based in Kingston, according to https://www.ecotreecare.ca/.

Paramedics were treating his co-workers, who were in shock.

The Ministry of Labor is investigating the accident.

Police are asking people to avoid the area as Waverly is closed between Adelaide and Dundee avenues.
