The Oshawa Council Committee unanimously voted to increase Lakeview Park opening hours till midnight

The Oshawa Community Services Committee voted 6-0 to recommend extending Lakeview Park opening times until midnight.

The vote took place at a meeting of the committee on Monday morning, December 6th.

The committee’s recommendation will now be put to a full vote in the Council on December 13th for a decision.

The park closes at 6 p.m. punctually from October 31 to March 31, which annoys many residents who like to park on the lakeshore or walk along the lake path.

A private security company hired by the city reportedly asked people to leave shortly after 6 p.m.

That led to a call from hundreds of Oshawa citizens who signed an online petition and contacted Oshawa City Councils to request an extension of the park’s opening hours beyond 6:00 p.m.

From April to October the park is open until 10 p.m.

On Facebook reg. Count. Brian Nicholson, who is representing Lakeview Park, is confident that at least eight council members will support the move to a midnight opening.
