A stalemate with an armed and barricaded person in Oshawa ended after six hours, Durham police report.
One person is in custody after the protracted incident, which was first reported on Thursday, November 11 at around 8:30 a.m.
At around 2:30 p.m., police said the situation on Highland Avenue in the Olive Avenue-Wilson Road area was now considered safe. The police were unable to identify the arrested person or any possible charges.
The tense situation had kept the local Clara Hughes Public School, St. Hedwig Catholic School and David Bouchard Public Schools safe for most of the school day.
During the incident, police also advised pedestrians to avoid the area.
