While some local residents may wonder if the city of Oshawa has opted for a more neutral color palette for the suddenly gray painted fire hydrants across the city, it has not.

The current gray color of the Oshawa fire hydrants is only part of the regular maintenance of the hydrants that provide water in emergency situations.
City officials have confirmed that the Durham area sends teams to every fire hydrant every few years, cleaning them up and painting them with gray primer.
The crews will return at a later date to paint them the yellow residents are used to.
