What’s Going On Right here? Exercise on Olive Avenue in Oshawa close to lethal hearth

In March 2021, a devastating fire at 149 Olive Ave. killed two men and two boys. Residents from seven homes were displaced as a result of the fire damage to the townhouses that were built circa 1910 and have connected attics.

Work is currently taking place in the area, but it is not directly related to the homes that were damaged.

• The Region of Durham has confirmed Enbridge Gas is upgrading and replacing its main lines and services on Olive Avenue between Simcoe Street South and Drew Street.

•The region will be conducting road reconstruction and replacement of the existing water mains and sanitary sewers within the same limits, which is planned to commence in the spring of 2022.

•The City of Oshawa has confirmed that owners of the homes that were ruined by the fire do plan to rebuild but no timelines have been confirmed.

•Homeowners are either currently working with their insurance companies or seeking permits from the city.
